Beth Purrinson, CNM, N.P.
Beth was raised in New Jersey and New York City. While an undergraduate at the State University of New York at Buffalo, she developed a strong interest in women's health and midwifery. This resulted in her changing her major from Social Work to Nursing. She graduated with a BS in Nursing in 1975. Wanting to escape the cold winters of Buffalo, Beth made the move to California. After living here and working as a labor and delivery nurse for 3 years, she left California to attend Georgetown University's Nurse Midwifery Education Program, from which she graduated in 1980. She completed a one-year internship at Su Clinic Familia in Texas. Beth returned to the Sacramento area, where she helped develop the American River Hospital Teen Clinic and promoted midwifery in community forums and local television and radio interviews. In her 20-year midwifery career, Beth has worked in both private practice and clinic settings, attending births at American River and Sutter Memorial Hospitals.
Due to family illness, Beth discontinued her midwifery practice in 2000. She became a Certified Massage Therapist, specializing in perinatal massage and acupressure. This enabled her to be available to be a care-giver to her loved one.
Beth obtained her California Nurse Practitioner license in 2004 and resumed her career in Women's Health. She proceeded to work in a private practice and then at Planned Parenthood.
Beth joined Capital OB/GYN in June 2014. She has been enjoying working with the other providers, the staff and most of all, the patients. Beth's passion is in empowering women by educating them about their health. Her greatest satisfaction is being able to quickly establish rapport with her patients through careful listening, empathy, humor and honesty.
